Professor Juan José López-Ibor Aliño | Doctor López-Ibor

Was born in Madrid on the 17 of December, 1941, and he died in Madrid the 12 of January, 2015 at the age of 73. Father of four, Maria Inés, Juan José, Jaime and Cristina.

Was an Emeritus Professor at the Department of Psychiatry of the Faculty of Medicine of the Universidad Complutense in Madrid. An Emeritus Doctor in San Carlos University. Numerary Member of the Royal Medicine Spanish Academy Academic. Ex-president of the World Association of Psychiatry. Numerary Member of Spanish Doctors. Honorary Member  of the Medicine and Surgery Spanish Academy. Honorary Member of Numerous International Academia like Real Academia Nacional de Medicina de Buenos Aires, Argentina. Correspondent Academic of the Real Academia de Medicina de Zaragoza. Honoris Causa Doctor  by the Universities of Chile and the University Rey Juan Carlos of Madrid. Vice-President of the Health Superior Council of Madrid Community. President and Founder of the Juan José López-Ibor Foundation. President of the Administration Council of the López Ibor Clinic.

CURRICULUM

Graduate in Medicine with outstanding grades and extraordinary award. Doctor in medicine with outstanding Cum Laude. Specialist Doctor in Psychiatry and Neurology started his career as an Assistant Teacher of Psychiatry in the Complutense and late he was Aggregate Teacher of Psychiatry in Oviedo. In 1974 acceded by opposition to Professor of Psychiatry in Salamanca University where he also become the the Director of the Department of Medical Psychology and Psychiatry. In 1982 became the Chair of Psychiatry in the Universidad de Alcalá de Henares and Chair of the Psychiatric Service of the Ramón y Cajal University Hospital. Since 1992 he was a Professor in Psychiatry of the Complutense University in Madrid and chair of the Psychiatry Service in San Carlos University Hospital and in the year 2001 created the Psychiatric and Mental Health institute of the Hospital Clínico, from which he was the chair until 2012.

The research activity of the Doctor López-Ibor is outstanding:

  • 54 competitive research projects, he has published 58 books and monographs and 239 chapters, 416 publications in scientific journals.
  • The number of papers, communications and activities related on the councils in its bigger part internationals and other scientific meetings ascent up to 1644, also of being a speaker in 284 courses and seminars.
  • He had five periods ( six year´s period) of research  and six full teaching periods ( five years each)
  • He was member of the Editorial Board of the most important Journals of his specialty both  Nationals and International. Director of the Actas Españolas de Psiquiatría International Journal  http://actaspsiquiatria.es/, founded by his father in 1940. Was the first psychiatric Journal of the Spanish language of that had  Impact Factor.
  • He was President and Secretary General of the World Psychiatry Association and the Spanish Psychiatry Society and from others scientific societies.
  • He was President of Sanitas and President of the Sanitas Foundation.
